Built in 1923 and registered on the National Register of Historic Places since 1994, the Montrose County Courthouse is/ was in need of a 21st century renovation. This design-build project is scheduled to replace all mechanical/ electrical/ plumbing systems, uncover and rectify structural issues, underground utilities in the alley, and provide substantial life safety upgrades for the building as a whole. This project is considered a rehabilitation under The Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties.
The building’s primary function is to house both public and private office space for Montrose County GIS, Treasurer, Assessor, Administration, and Legal staff. The historic lobby spaces, World War II Memorial vestibule spaces, and the Boardroom will receive a face lift, using similar materials which echo the original 1920’s construction. A new elevator and new exit stairs are provided to better serve the upper floors of the building that have been unoccupied for a number of years. New windows and the new mechanical system will improve the energy performance of the building, and a new roof system and gutter rehabilitation will ensure its watertightness for the years ahead. Site improvements include reconstructing the exterior grand staircase to better reflect the original construction, providing adequate parking as well as ADA circulation paths for both staff and members of the public around and into the building.
We look forward to seeing this project completed under the trusted leadership of Stryker & Company, Inc.
