19,000 square feet (Phase 1), addition of 18,000 square feet (Phase 2)
Independence Academy Charter School (IACS) phase 1 created a gymnasium, administration areas, library, commons, a science room, four classrooms, and circulation space. A centrally located commons area provides activity space for the 400 K-8 students of IACS. Each classroom has cabinetry and handwashing sink, and the interior space are finished with a combination of drywall, vinyl, carpet , and acoustical ceiling tile.
Playground areas overlook the Colorado National Monument, Grand Mesa, and the Bookcliffs, while providing the students ample outside space for recreation. The school received a BEST grant to aid with funding.
Phase 2 construction added 10 classrooms with supporting focus rooms and restrooms, along with a large art room and music room.
The Phase 1 building was completed on time and occupied by staff and students in July 2015
