Gunnison Lake School was renovated and added onto in order to house a growing population for Pre-School, Kindergarten, and GWSD Administration. In order to bring the completed building online fore the start of the 2009-2010 school year, a phased approach to the design and construction of the facility was implemented.
Renovations included the reconfigurations of interior spaces, updating of finishes, and replacement of exterior windows around the existing facility. Building lighting, power and data, a new fire protection system with automatic sprinkler system and fire alarms were all included in this renovation. The existing radiant heat system was replaced with a boiler and reheat coiling system, freeing critical floor and wall space within the teaching environment. New plumbing fixtures were replaced and allowed the school to come up to compliance with code regulations. A new commercial warming kitchen was fit into the existing building, allowing service of breakfast and lunch programs. Food will be prepared at the new Gunnison Community School and transported to satellite warming/serving kitchens within the school district. On the building site, new parent and bus drop-off areas were created to compliment a new secure building entrance. Service Access is isolated from the main building to allow for efficient drop-offs.
