A replacement for the town of Crested Butte’s derelict existing fire protection buildings.  This was accomplished by creating a fire protection and rescue campus comprised of two buildings and an outdoor training area.  The project serves the greater Crested Butte area.

The buildings forms and materials were designed to work with the rustic, quirky mountain town aesthetic of the town of Crested Butte.  Colors, textures, and patterns were used to be in harmony with the surrounding natural and built environment.  The forms of the buildings act as a gateway into the town, while not impeding the views of the surrounding mountains.

The fire protection district wanted to create a unique and functional campus that would allow them to best serve the growing community.  This was accomplished by incorporating modern emergency services equipment and an efficient building layout that reduces response times.  Durable materials were chosen to ensure a long-life project that is energy efficient.  Though a combination of continuous insulation assemblies, efficient heating / cooling systems , and photovoltaics, the campus will have a low environmental impact and operating cost.

Estimated Completion August 2026
