Chaffee County is in need of a new Sheriff’s office for their business and operational needs; there current space has reached its useful life and space capacity, inhibiting growth of this fundamental branch of a community. The character of the new Sheriff’s Office is inspired by the memorable Chaffee County Courthouse was built in 1932 to maintain the values and aesthetic of the community. The facility will use masonry building materials with vertical pilaster accents to echo the timeless nature of civic pressure and strength.
Given its position along the highway 50 main entrance corridor to Salida, emulating this building style but with a modern flair will provide a continuity across the community’s civic buildings, elevating the streetscape of highway 50, and be recognizable as a Sheriff’s Office for years to come.
The Sheriff’s Office is being designed for a fifty-year plus lifetime. Flexibility of space, systems, and timeless aesthetic are key to the longevity and operability of the site and building. System types, materials, and finishes are being chosen based on proven performance, durability, energy efficiency, ease of maintenance, and adaptability for future expansion.
The project is currently under the design phase.
